Lehmann has found ways to not only incorporate his passion into his law practice by maintaining clients throughout Louisiana, but also has found ways to use flying to give back to those in need.(Loyola publications) ...>>more

100th Mission
July 15, 2008

One-year-old Kennedy Smith enjoys time with her father, Matthew, and sister, Gracie, after completing the 100th flight for Pilots For Patients. Smith traveled with her mother, Paige Smith, to Dallas for medical treatment.
We had a reception at Monroe Air Center following the completion of the mission. We would like to thank all who attended for being a part and making it a success. We also would like to say a special thanks to all the pilots who have flown one or more of those 100 missions. If not for all of you we would not have made it this far. We also would like to say thanks to Mr. H. M. Butler, Board Member, for organizing all the media for this event and Alan and Onna Gallagher and Hope Anderson for setting up the reception, providing cake, calling patients, and all the other things they have done for the organization.
We look forward to the next 100.

Sincerely,
Tamara Byrd
Pilots For Patients Mission Coordinator

Memorable Experience!

Our daughter, Sara Grace Young was diagnosed with craniosynostosis. Her surgery at the Texas Medical Center on January 18 in Houston resulted in an ear to ear incision across the top of her head. While receiving further treatment, one of the nurses recommended that we contact Pete Peterson, Houston Ground Angels/Pilots to provide transportation from our home in Monroe, La. to Houston for continuing orthotics treatment. Mr. Peterson then contacted Philip Thomas, President, Pilots for Patients in Monroe, La. who flew us to Houston for our next appointment.

Mr. Thomas provided us with a memorable experience in flying us to Houston where we were met by Mr. Pete and our two Ground Angels, Susanne Bailey and Jane Jacobi. These two precious ladies took us to our appointment and treated us to lunch before returning us to David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport for our return flight to Monroe with Mr. Thomas. God has showered us with many blessings in less than two months and we are most grateful. We have already scheduled our next appointment and Houston Ground Angels/Pilots and Pilots for Patients are there for us again. They are at the top of our list. We feel so fortunate to have this service provided free of charge for medical transportation needs. Many thanks from the bottom of our hearts. Sincerely, Susan Young, Monroe, La

Pilots for Patients is a newly chartered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Pilots participating in the program donate their time, fuel and airplanes for the flight and are not reimbursed for these expenses. Patients who are medically stable fly for free to wherever treatment awaits. Pilots for Patients will focus on transporting Louisiana patients. Patients needing specialized care will have access to medical centers such as MD Anderson in Houston, Texas and St. Jude, in Memphis Tenn

Pilots for Patients is expanding our membership to facilitate the growing list of missions. We need volunteer pilots with a minimum of 250 hours experience and preferably IFR capable. If you own or have access to suitable aircraft and meet these qualifications please consider volunteering to fly at least a single mission for us in 2008. By doing so you will 'make a difference' in the quality of someone's life.
